Ms. Sarah Portugal: I have worked in education for 18 years as a teacher, curriculum specialist, principal, and Director of Special Education. I love working in education because every day brings new opportunities to grow and learn alongside children who are also growing and learning. My philosophy as an administrator is to create a strong team to ensure everyone feels valued, safe, and part of our school campus. I do not believe that school personnel can support students alone. We need our families and community at large to advocate for what is needed at the school, create opportunities for our students beyond the classrooms, and build strong alliances with teachers to ensure that every child is provided the resources they need to succeed. I am thrilled to be part of the Golden West and Travis Unified community, and am looking forward to a phenomenal year!

Ms. Noemi Lay: Hi! This is my second year serving as Assistant Principal at Golden West Middle School. Throughout my career I have been a kindergarten teacher, a 6th grade math and science teacher, a 6-8 reading intervention teacher, a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), and a Literacy Specialist focused on ELD. Ms. Shawna O'Hara: In 1994, I started my teaching career right here at Golden West! I taught 6th and 8th grade ELA and Social Science. Once 6th grade moved to the elementary schools, I taught 5th and 6th grades, spent some time as an Intervention teacher, and ended my teaching time as a Math Coach. I am so happy and excited to be back at Golden West and look forward to the challenges and joys this year has to offer!
