Mathematics
MATHEMATICS -Students are placed in the appropriate math course based on Standardized assessment tools as well as teacher recommendation during 6th and 7th grade.
Math 7 - This course focuses on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
Accelerated Math 7 - This course focuses on four critical areas, combining information being taught in BOTH the Math 7 and Math 8 courses as well as an introduction to computer programming. The Critical areas are: (1) adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing rational numbers; (2) analyzing proportional relationships and using expressions and equations; (3) using sampling to draw inferences about a population; (4) solving problems involving angle measure, area, surface area and volume. Students in this course must maintain a B- or above at each grade reporting time, to advance to Algebra 1 for 8th grade.
Intervention Math 7- This course will cover the essential skills related to each content standard in Mathematics. Grade 7 will study proportional relationships, operations with rational numbers, expressions, linear equations, scale drawings and geometric constructions. The focus will be on targeted instruction, tailoring the course materials to build students’ skills and habits in helping them achieve academic goals at grade level.
